Privacy Policy

Last updated: April 2026

1. About this policy

This privacy policy applies to the RateSwitch website (rateswitch.uk) and all related services, alerts, communications and features provided through it (together, the ‘Service’). It explains what personal information we collect, why we collect it, how we use it, and your rights.

The Service is operated jointly by two companies, each of which acts as a data controller in respect of your personal information:

Rateswitch Ltd – registered in England and Wales, company number 10100327. Registered office: Sophia House, 28 Cathedral Road, Cardiff, CF11 9LJ.

Rateswitch Ltd is an appointed representative of Stonebridge Mortgage Solutions Limited, authorised and regulated by the FCA. FCA reference: 762308. ICO registration reference: ZA194637.

Mortgage Metrics Ltd – registered in England and Wales, company number 13665605. Registered office: Tramshed Tech, Pendyris Street, Cardiff, CF11 6BH.

Mortgage Metrics Ltd is the technology provider that powers the RateSwitch rate alert platform. ICO registration reference: ZC114450.

Both companies are referred to as ‘we’, ‘us’ or ‘our’ throughout this policy where the context applies to both. Where a point applies to one company specifically, this is stated clearly.

We are committed to complying with the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR), the Data Protection Act 2018, the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations 2003 (PECR), and all applicable ICO guidance.

2. Information we collect

2.1 When you register for the Service

When you sign up to RateSwitch, we collect:

  • Your name, email address and telephone number
  • Your current mortgage lender
  • Your remaining term
  • The date your current mortgage rate ends

2.2 When you browse the website

We collect technical data including your IP address, browser type and pages visited, via cookies and similar technologies. See section 7.

2.3 When you contact us

We retain all methods of communication with you, whether by email, telephone or through the website.

3. How we use your information

3.1 To provide the rate alert service (Rateswitch Ltd and Mortgage Metrics Ltd)

Both companies use your mortgage details to monitor rates on your behalf and deliver alerts by email and/or SMS.

Legal basis: performance of a contract (providing the Service you have requested).

3.2 To contact you about mortgage services (Rateswitch Ltd only)

As a regulated mortgage broker, Rateswitch Ltd will use your information – in particular your rate end date and remaining term – to contact you as you approach your mortgage switch window. This contact may include:

  • Notification that you have entered, or are approaching, your lender’s product transfer or switch window
  • Information about mortgage products that may be relevant to your circumstances
  • An offer to manage a product transfer with your lender
  • An offer to manage a full remortgage to a new lender

This is an integral part of the Service and how the free alert platform is funded. If you do not respond to our outreach, we will not pursue further contact.

Legal basis: legitimate interests as a regulated mortgage broker, balanced against your rights. You may object to this processing at any time – see Section 10.

3.3 Email and SMS communications

We may send you rate-related updates and information about our services where we have consent or a legitimate interest under PECR. You can opt out at any time via the unsubscribe link in any email, or by contacting us.

3.4 When you instruct us to arrange a mortgage

If you ask Rateswitch Ltd to arrange a remortgage or product transfer, we will collect additional information including full financial and employment details. Separate terms and a privacy notice will be provided at that stage in accordance with FCA requirements.

4. Alert delivery

Alerts are delivered by email and/or SMS. We use reasonable measures to ensure delivery but cannot guarantee receipt – emails may be filtered as spam, and SMS messages may be delayed or blocked by your carrier.

When you register, we will send a confirmation email. You should mark it as ‘safe’ or ‘not junk’ in your email client. We will remind you to do this at registration.

We do not accept responsibility for any loss or missed opportunity arising from an alert that was not received, filtered, or not acted upon. You remain responsible for monitoring your own mortgage and acting before your rate expires. This responsibility also lies with your existing lender or broker, as applicable.

Once a new rate has been secured – through RateSwitch, your lender or another broker – it is your responsibility to reset your alert to reflect your new mortgage details. If you proceed through RateSwitch, we will handle this as part of our managed service.

5. Who we share your data with

5.1 Between Rateswitch Ltd and Mortgage Metrics Ltd

As joint data controllers, both companies share your data with each other as needed to operate the Service. Both are bound by this policy and UK data protection law.

5.2 Lenders and credit reference agencies

If you instruct us to arrange a mortgage, we may share your information with lenders and contact credit reference agencies, including TransUnion (transunion.co.uk/legal-information/bureau-privacy-notice).

5.3 Stonebridge Mortgage Solutions Limited

As an appointed representative of Stonebridge, Rateswitch Ltd may share information with Stonebridge as required by our regulatory obligations and network membership.

5.4 Technology and service providers

We use third-party providers for email delivery, SMS services and hosting. These act as data processors under appropriate agreements. We do not sell personal data to third parties.

5.5 Business sale or transfer

If Rateswitch Ltd or Mortgage Metrics Ltd is sold or integrated with another business, your data may be disclosed to advisers and prospective purchasers and passed to the new owners, subject to the same protections outlined in this policy. You will be informed of any such change.

6. How long we keep your data

We retain your data for as long as needed to provide the Service and, where applicable, for the duration of any mortgage we arrange. We then retain data for the period required by our regulatory obligations – generally a minimum of six years for FCA-regulated activity – before secure deletion.

If you close your account without proceeding to a mortgage, we will delete your data within a reasonable period of your request, unless retention is legally required.

7. Cookies

We use cookies to improve your experience. Google Analytics is used to monitor visitor activity using cookies that do not store personally identifiable information. See google.com/privacy.html for more information.

You may block cookies in your browser settings, though some features of the Service may not function correctly as a result.

8. Data security

We apply appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect your personal data. Transmission of data over the internet is not completely secure and any such transmission is at your own risk.

9. Overseas transfers

Your data is primarily processed within the United Kingdom. Where transfers outside the UK are necessary, we ensure appropriate safeguards are in place, including the use of UK International Data Transfer Agreements (IDTAs) or equivalent mechanisms.

10. Your rights

Under UK data protection law, you have the right to:

  • Access – request a free copy of the data we hold about you
  • Rectification – ask us to correct inaccurate or incomplete data
  • Erasure – ask us to delete your data in certain circumstances
  • Restriction – ask us to limit how we use your data
  • Portability – receive your data in a structured, machine-readable format
  • Object – object to processing based on legitimate interests, including direct marketing
  • Withdraw consent – where processing is consent-based, withdraw at any time without affecting prior processing

To exercise any right, contact us using the details in Section 12. We will respond within one calendar
month. You may also complain to the ICO at ico.org.uk.
